  • Member Presentation – George Liberman “Venice & Venice Carnivale

    A member of the Montreal Camera Club since 2010, George Liberman has developed a strong passion for travel and street photography, with a particular interest in images that combine atmosphere, character, and visual storytelling. Particular attention is drawn to scenes where light, composition, and human presence come together to create a sense of narrative, even when the moment is carefully constructed. Over the years, photographic travels have led to a variety of international locations. While candid street photography remains a favourite pursuit, equal enjoyment comes from more deliberately arranged or "staged" environments, where the challenge lies in transforming a composed scene into something that still feels alive, expressive, and visually compelling. Venice, And Venice Carnivale Among the most inspiring subjects is Venice during Carnival, when the city becomes a kind of choreographed theatre. Much of what is seen is posed or carefully arranged, yet within that structure lies a rich opportunity for strong portraiture, dramatic lighting, and storytelling through costume, gesture, and setting. This September, a presentation on Venice and the Venice Carnival will explore these unique visual opportunities and highlight what makes them so compelling for photographers.

  • LCC – Expressions: Guest Speaker – Bob Hills

    Bob Hills is a retired high-tech executive who has discovered a deep passion for photography and digital art. Bobs works centers on three distinct facets: -Creatively capturing images in-camera, -Artistically processing those images to create more expressive pieces of artwork, and -Teaching others how to achieve similar results   He frequently incorporates multiple exposures, intentional blur, and innovative image processing techniques to move beyond traditional photography and create more interpretive, expressive images.

  • LCC – Botanicals & Still Life: Reveal – Field Trip, People: Theme Presentation Environmental Portrature

    How well do you know the plants around you? Here's your chance to combine your photography skills with a little botanical detective work. Submit photos in any or all of the following catefories. Annuals - Plants that complete their life cycle in a single growing season. Perennials - Plants that return year after year. Edible Botanicals - Plants, fruits, vegetables, herbs, or fungi that are safe for human consumption. Poisonous Botanicals - Plants or fungi that are poisonous to humans. A little research may be needed to correctly identify your subject, so have fun learning something along the way. Be sure to label each submission with the appropriate category followed by the photo name.

  • Speaker: Rob Shea “An Introduction to Color Infrared Photography”

    Bio Rob Shea is an infrared, landscape, and travel photographer who has created over 125 YouTube videos covering infrared photography, including detailed tutorials, shooting and editing guides, tips, tricks, raw editor reviews, and product reviews. He has created multiple tools to simplify the complex editing workflow for color infrared images. The Infrared Profile Pack and Chrome Profile Pack are free collections of camera-specific profiles which allow setting of a good white balance in Adobe and other raw editors. Simplify the color swapping process with Photoshop actions, Lightroom profiles, ON1 Photo RAW presets, darktable presets, and LUTs. His book, Color Doesn’t Exist: A Practical Guide to Infrared Photography, is the definitive guide for photographers new to and experienced with infrared photography. He has introduced infrared photography to photo clubs in the United Kingdom, South Africa, Canada, and in the United States including California, New Mexico, Wisconsin, and New Jersey. An Introduction to Color Infrared Photography What is digital color infrared photography, and why would you want to shoot it? What are the roadblocks to shooting and editing digital color infrared images? We will cover the equipment needed to shoot infrared, including unconverted and converted cameras, specialized filters, the color infrared styles you can use, the camera settings to use, and how to edit your images. We'll discuss white balancing, color swapping, and the various workflows for processing color and monochrome images.  

  • LCC – Pictorial: Guest Speaker – Ann Mitchell

    Ann will discuss her series Chance Chronicles, explaining the distinctive methods she uses to develope visual ideas. Her final images closely resemble the pictorialist style of photographers from more than a century ago. She will also explore historical techniques for creating tonal, atmospheric effects and demonstrate how similar qualities can be achieved with todays digital software.

  • LCC – Fauna: Guest Speaker – Essdras Suarez – Birds of Panama

    The guest speaker is Essdras Suarez. He will be presenting The Birds of Panama. - Two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer - Educator, author and international speaker - Career spans more than three decades - Renowned for his visual storytelling - Spent twenty years as a photojournalist at major U.S. newspapers before transitioning into freelance editorial and commercial photography -His work has appeared in publications including Time, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian and Le Figaro, among many others.

  • Speaker: Monika Deviat “Fundamentals of Night Photography”

    Monika Deviat is an internationally published photographer and Nikon Canada Ambassador based in Alberta, Canada. She is not just a photographer, though. Monika is a metalhead, speaker and educator, pole and aerial athlete and instructor, hiking guide, and non-practicing physicist. Her photography career started in darkness - capturing the energy of concerts and events. She has travelled across North America and even on International Waters to shoot heavy metal shows and festivals. In 2015, Monika shifted from shooting stars on stage to stars in the sky. Photographing the Milky Way inspired her to start doing landscape photography and led her to hike and scramble in the Canadian Rockies. She spends a lot of time hauling ridiculous amounts of gear up mountains to shoot the night sky. Spending hours alone beneath a star-filled sky is one of Monika’s favourite places to be - and it’s what first sparked her interest in dark sky preservation. Through her photography and education, she advocates for protecting dark skies and safeguarding the wild places where they can still be experienced. Monika's photography does not fit into a single niche, and she shows her versatility, technical skills, and creative eye across multiple photography genres. Beyond photography, Monika is an engaging educator, leading workshops that blend knowledge-sharing with memorable experiences.   Fundamentals of Night Photography Learn the foundations of night photography from gear considerations to settings and manual focusing tips for stars. Monika will break down technical aspects to make this challenging genre easier to delve into.   • LCC – Architecture: Challenge Reveal – 151 Buildings, Landscape: Astrophotography Tutorial

    Our Challenge this year is based on the book Exploring Montreal: 151 Best Buildings by Robin Ward. From two lists located on G Suite, participants will be asked to match image fragments with short descriptions taken from the book. The 30 or so buildings selected for the quiz will be familiar to most of our members. The purpose is to have fun with our knowledge of Montreal’s urban landmarks.

  • Speaker: Monique Campbell “Travelling in the Street”

    Monique Campbell has been a photographer for 35 plus years after graduating from the Western Pacific Academy of Photography in Victoria, British Columbia in 1992. Her career as a photojournalist and wedding photographer has given her a foundation in capturing candid and camera aware images. She started to do street photography after she discovered the work of master Vivian Maier. Since 2016, Monique has photographed in Hamilton where she lives, nationally, and internationally. Most of her images capture ordinary moments of everyday life. She thrills at photographing a wide spectrum of people that she encounters on the streets especially women. Her award-winning work has been exhibited, collected and published locally and around the world. Travelling in the Street Monique Campbell has been a professional photographer for over 35 years. Two of her passions are making humanist street images and traveling within Canada and abroad. In her new presentation, she discusses how to plan a photographic trip and make photographic memories based on her experiences photographing in London, England, Portugal, Cuba, Italy, and the wonders of the world like Niagara Falls, Ontario. One of the highlights will be her images and stories from her visit to Ireland in 2026 as she followed in the footsteps of Dorthea Lange. The master photographer photographed the locals in Ennis, County Clare, in 1954. This motivated Monique to connect with the community and make new images.
