  • WEBEX ONLY: Member Presenter: Ilana Block “Brazil”

    Wildlife photographer, animal lover and Naturopathic Doctor, based out of Montreal, Canada.  As of 2010, when she is not in her office, she is out in nature, waiting for an animal to strike a pose, and absolutely loving it!  Growing up with a huge appreciation for nature, photographing wildlife came naturally to Ilana.  She has won several local, national, and international awards. She was the chair of the nature division at the Montreal Camera Club 2015-2018. She loves to travel, to be out in nature, to discover new places and get to know new birds and other animals, meet great people and share her love of photography through workshops, lectures and the sale of her photos. Ilana has been published in nature magazines and her work has been exhibited at local cafés, art galleries, hospitals, and local universities. Her photographs are all about sharing the extraordinary beauty of animals with you. She feels that the more we know about these incredible creatures, the more we can work together to protect them and their habitat for years to come. It's a wildlife paradise and Ilana looks forward to sharing her photos from her trip with you!

    Visiting the M.C. Escher retrospective in downtown Montreal is a treasurer for any amateur photographer. As a graphic artist, Escher's command of visual language mirrors the very foundations of photography: composition, perspective and the art of seeing.

  • Member Presentation: 2nd Half: Marcel Bourque “Photographing 9 to 11 year-old Boys’ Hockey / Before & After” – PRESENTATION WILL NOT BE RECORDED

    Marcel Bourque has been a member of the Montreal Camera Club since 2020. Photographing Boys Hockey Description: This past winter I started photographing 9-to-11-year-old boys’ hockey (disclaimer: one of my grandsons is a player). I quickly ran into a series of challenges such as bad lighting, bad sight-lines, limited access around the arena, post-processing ISO 35,000 images, and so forth. In the talk I’ll review what I was asked I was trying to achieve, the equipment I used, the challenges of shooting in low-light arenas, and the post-processing issues I ran into.

  • LCC – Botanicals & Still Life Guest Speaker – Harold Ross

    Harold Ross has enjoyed a 40-year photography career, beginning with a focus on fine art and a degree from the Maryland Institute, College of Art. For over 30 of those years, he owned a studio that produced images for advertising. During this time, Harold practiced and perfected his Light Painting methods, which became his exclusive method of lighting.   Harold is a firm believer in the transformative power of light. He aims to reveal aspects of his subjects that are often overlooked under standard lighting conditions.   • Speaker: Ed Kashi – “An Evening with Ed Kashi: 45 Years of Visual Storytelling

    Ed Kashi is an internationally recognized photojournalist, filmmaker, speaker and educator. A contributing photographer to the VII Foundation, and co-founder of Talking Eyes Media, Kashi is recognized for his complex and compelling rendering of the human condition. In addition to numerous awards from World Press Photo and Pictures of the Year International, including a 2015 Multimedia Photographer of the Year award, his images have been published and exhibited worldwide. In October of 2025 his 15thbook, A Period in Time, a retrospective of his 45-year career, will be published. I'll share work from my newest book, A Period In time: Looking Back While Moving Forward, a 45-year retrospective on my career and the life of a photojournalist.     Jean-Marc Legentil will give a presentation entitled "Inside the Mind of a CAPA Judge". By the end of the presentation you will be able to: - Understand the three CAPA judging criteria - Distinguish a beautiful photograph from a competition photograph - Understand why certain images receive scores of 7, 8, 9, 10. - Understand how judges determine the winning photographs   Jean-Marc is a Montreal based photographer, educator and CAPA-certified judge. Passionate about visual storytelling and helping photographers elevate their vision.

  • Member Presentation – George Liberman “Venice & Venice Carnivale

    A member of the Montreal Camera Club since 2010, George Liberman has developed a strong passion for travel and street photography, with a particular interest in images that combine atmosphere, character, and visual storytelling. Particular attention is drawn to scenes where light, composition, and human presence come together to create a sense of narrative, even when the moment is carefully constructed. Over the years, photographic travels have led to a variety of international locations. While candid street photography remains a favourite pursuit, equal enjoyment comes from more deliberately arranged or "staged" environments, where the challenge lies in transforming a composed scene into something that still feels alive, expressive, and visually compelling. Venice, And Venice Carnivale Among the most inspiring subjects is Venice during Carnival, when the city becomes a kind of choreographed theatre. Much of what is seen is posed or carefully arranged, yet within that structure lies a rich opportunity for strong portraiture, dramatic lighting, and storytelling through costume, gesture, and setting. This September, a presentation on Venice and the Venice Carnival will explore these unique visual opportunities and highlight what makes them so compelling for photographers.
