Competitions
Members are able to have their images scored and commented on by CAPA certified judges as well as qualified Club members. For those who want to have their images commented on without scoring, the Club hosts several challenges. The themes of both challenges and competitions are chosen to coincide with those of the CAPA (Canadian Association of Photographic Art) competitions, making it easier for our club to participate in the national arena
PICTORIAL COMPETITION
We hold four Pictorial competitions held each year with images entered in Creative, Photojournalism / Street, and General. Occasionally the Pictorial Chair may designate a theme for one of the competitions. At the end of the season, there is a final competition for Image of the Year in each category, and the overall winner is selected from among those winners.
Creative
Images are created either by in-camera techniques (e.g. multiple or long exposures; intentional camera movement) or post-processing manipulations, including the combination of two or more images into one.
Photojournalism / Street
Photojournalism consists of images that tell stories or document people affected by an event or a situation.
Street photography features unmediated, chance encounters and random incidents, etc. in public places. A Street image is not about an event but rather a statement or observation about people and/or our environment.
General
The Pictorial General consists of everything not included above.
NATURE COMPETITION
We hold four Nature competitions each year with images entered in Botany, General, Ornithology, and Zoology. Occasionally the Nature Chair may designate a theme for one of the competitions. At the end of the season, there is a final competition for Image of the Year in each category, and the overall winner is selected from among those winners.
Botany
Wildflowers, trees, plants, and fungi growing in the wild or cultivated in botanical gardens, etc., in their botanical form.
General
Natural phenomena such as landscapes or seascapes, rocks, fossils, astronomy, etc.
Ornithology
Undomesticated birds in their natural habitat, in a zoo, game farm, refuge, or aquarium.
Zoology
Mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and insects in their natural environment, in refuges, or in zoos.
